Although the exact provenance of our version of this old standard is a little hard to trace, an early inspiration was the version performed by Uncle Dave Macon and an unidentified fiddler (possibly Charlie Arrington). They tacked it on the end of the song "Johnny Grey," which was sung and played on the banjo by Uncle Dave.
